Visual Art
The Watsonia Primary School Visual Arts program provides opportunities for students to develop art skills and knowledge as well as develop their artistry and self-expression, thinking skills, cross cultural skills and an appreciation of diversity. Students learn to explore their creativity and imagination through a skill based visual arts program. This supports the process of art making where students are given clear instructions on the correct use of tools, material and techniques. Over the course of the year, students are able to experiment with a variety of media including painting, drawing, ceramics, textiles, printmaking, college, construction and visual communication. They learn to develop a language around art elements that are appropriate when thinking and talking about art, such as line, shape, colour and textures.
Instructional Time:
At Watsonia Primary School, students engage in a one-hour Visual Arts lesson each week in our spacious and creative Art room.
Students are able to see the creative possibilities within the Arts and further explore them within the school environment.
Performing Art
At Watsonia Primary School the music program is designed to introduce students to the creative world of performing arts in a fun and energetic way through activities that promote enjoyment, skill development, understanding and a sense of musicianship. Students explore music through their own voices, percussion and pitched instruments, rhyming and rhythmic games, improvisation and structured dance. During music lessons students are provided opportunities to discover a broad range of music experiences including classifying and analysing sounds, composing, exploring body percussion, harmonising, singing, notation, reading music, song writing and recording. Music excursions and incursions are chosen to support and compliment the classroom curriculum. We welcome all students to participate in the biannual production.

At Watsonia Primary School, each Year level from Prep to Year 6 is allotted a one hour music lesson per week held in a dedicated music room.
LOTE Italian
In our school, we offer Italian as the second language, which opens doors to global opportunities in both personal and professional contexts. Italian is spoken by millions of people worldwide, making it an essential tool for connecting with others and participating in a multicultural world. Additionally, studies show that learning a second language at a young age boosts brain function, improves problem-solving skills, and enhances overall academic performance. By introducing Italian early on, we provide our students with the foundation to become global citizens who can navigate and contribute to an increasingly interconnected world.

Digital Technology
In today’s landscape, digital technologies play an ever-expanding role in our daily routines. At Watsonia Primary School, we equip our students with the necessary knowledge and competencies to harness these tools effectively for learning purposes. Moreover, we place a strong emphasis on guiding students to navigate digital resources responsibly and safely. Within our classrooms, we integrate digital tools such as iPads (Foundation to Year 2) and Laptops (Year 3 to Year 6) judiciously, aligning their use with focussed and specific learning objectives through targeted instruction

Digital technologies are intentionally integrated into our daily teaching and learning practices.
Student Support Program: Academics and Counselling.
Homework: Regular homework starts in Prep with readers and literacy.
Outdoor Education Program: Our Outdoor Education Program begins in Prep with our students attending a Prep breakfast. Our Grade 1/2 students take part in a BBQ dinner followed by a disco. Our annual three-day camp is offered to our Grade 3-6 students.
